I illustrated the Yellow-Vented Bulbul for this book. A songbird species, its local names include Pulangga, Malipago and Kukul.
Though less popular than the Maya, it is more common and "lives in almost every habitat imaginable in the Philippines: urban settlements, lowland forests, lakes and beaches, and even high-elevation areas," which suits the story. Best of all, it's endemic to the Philippines.
